Entenderá que debe respetar todas las formas de vida, y si el niño es muy pequeño, deberás explicarle con paciencia que el animal no es un juguete y que debe tratarlo con cariño y no con fuerza bruta.
También lo ideal sería saber exactamente de donde proviene. En el caso de gatos y perros, siempre te voy a recomendar adoptar, que es un gesto de amor inmenso, y estarás alegrando la vida de un animal que seguramente sufrió mucho.

También hay gente que los elige como una forma de vigilancia y seguridad en su casa. Es recomendable que acudan a un adiestrador especialista en esto, ya que no cualquiera puede enseñarle a un perro a atacar y puede ser peligroso para la familia si se vuelve violento o miedoso si se lo trata con violencia.
Particularmente no recomiendo pensar en un perro si sos una persona que vive sola y está mucho tiempo fuera de casa o de viaje y no lo podés llevar con vos.
En cambio, si sos alguien muy activo que disfruta de hacer deporte al aire libre, un perro ágil podría ser un gran compañero.
Todo podría parecer perfecto si nunca tuviste uno, pero también requieren muchos cuidados y dedicación, ya que lo que más disfrutan es estar en compañía de su familia y ser mimados como niños.
Deben salir a pasear por lo menos dos veces al día y en el caso de ser de gran tamaño lo más recomendado es tener un espacio grande en el que pueda desplazarse libremente.
Hay algunas razas que si se quedan solos durante mucho tiempo pueden desarrollar problemas graves de comportamiento, sin contar los destrozos que ocasionarían en el hogar. Aunque esto podría suceder con cualquier perro que no está educado correctamente.
Si bien todos necesitan correr y jugar, si tenés un departamento chico lo ideal es que el tamaño del perro sea acorde al lugar, a menos que tengas varias horas al día para sacarlo a pasear y jugar.
Razas como los galgos o dogos necesitan si o si un espacio acorde a su tamaño.
La esperanza de vida es de 15 a 20 años, así que también debés plantearte seriamente si estás dispuesto a convivir todo ese tiempo con un perrito y darle la atención y los cuidados que se merece.
GATOS
Los segundos animales más buscados como mascotas son los gatos.
Si sos más tranquilo y disfrutás de estar largas horas en el sillón de tu casa mirando una serie o si no te gusta salir mucho de tu casa, pero querés una tierna compañía en tus ratos libres, ésta es tu opción.
También adorables para la mayoría ¿Quién no se quedó alguna vez mirando los cientos de miles de videos tiernos y graciosos de gatitos que hay en Internet?
Aunque tienen fama de ser un poco menos sociables y fieles que los perros ya que son más independientes y en algunos casos bastante ariscos.
Sin embargo eso no significa que no puedan ser cariñosos a su manera y acudir a vos cuando tengan ganas de ser acariciados o juguetear un rato.
También es cierto que hay gatos que actúan bastante similar a los perros y se les puede enseñar a venir cuando se los llaman por su nombre.
Son súper divertidos y curiosos, lo que puede llevar a que se trepen por los lugares más insólitos de tu casa.
Les encanta jugar y cazar.
Tal vez estar solos por horas les sea más llevadero que a los perros y tampoco necesitan que los saques de paseo a hacer sus necesidades a la calle todos los días, lo cual sería una gran ventaja para algunas personas.
Aunque si vivís en un departamento chico, no se recomiendan algunas razas exóticas como los Abisinios y Orientales, ya que tienen demasiada energía que necesitan descargar.
Hay razas más costosas que requieren muchos más cuidados como son los Persa y Ragdolls.
También podrás sacarlo a un patio, terraza o a la calle con correa si tu vecindario es seguro y lo adaptas desde bebé.
Es importante para ellos y para tus muebles y todo lo que tengas en tu hogar (si querés conservarlos) que adquieras por lo menos un accesorio especial donde puedan afilar sus uñas, ya que es necesario y además es uno de sus pasatiempos preferidos.
Viven aproximadamente la misma cantidad de años que los perros, entre 10 y 20 años.
A partir de acá, están los animales que yo no recomiendo tener en una casa, ya que la mayoría de personas no sabe como cuidarlos adecuadamente ni tiene el espacio que ellos necesitan.
Aparte no es fácil saber cómo llegaron a estar en venta, de donde vienen, ni quién está detrás, pero obviamente… la última decisión es tuya.
AVES
Su naturaleza es volar, para algo tienen sus alas, y una jaula sea del tamaño que sea será una prisión para ellos.
Pero si ya tenés una, podés soltarla dentro de una habitación debés en cuando.
Tambíen hay que tener en cuenta que pueden ser muuuy ruidosos y hay gente que no tolera esto por mucho tiempo (ni por poco)
Por algo se le llama, de forma coloquial, “loro” a alguien que habla demasiado.
No requieren tanto cuidado como los dos anteriores pero sí tendrás que comprarles juguetes e interactuar con ellos todos los días, sino podrían acabar con malos hábitos.
Algunos dueños no interactúan con ellos y deciden adquirir otra ave, como compañero para que no esté solo, pero siempre van a querer tu atención. Aparte no tiene ningún sentido tener una mascota e ignorarla.
Deberás adquirir una jaula, la cual se ensucia mucho y deberás limpiar por lo menos una vez a la semana.
Los loros viven muchos años, dependiendo de la raza, de 15 a 60, aparte de ser muy inteligentes pueden ser muy graciosos y amistosos, en cambio aves más pequeñas viven solamente algunos años.
CONEJOS
También desde hace años se volvió una opción bastante popular como mascota. Ya que son muy lindos, tiernos, peluditos y muy sociables. Aparte no implican peligro para los humanos.
Dependiendo de la raza pueden llegar a un tamaño bastante grande, aunque los llamados “enanos”, suelen quedar de un tamaño pequeño.
Requieren de bastante cuidado, ya que les encanta ser mimados, jugar y estar en compañía, son muy sensibles ya que no les gusta la soledad y si se sienten abandonados podrían dejar de comer.
También podés enseñarle algunos trucos, y comprarle juguetes para que se entretenga.
Se recomienda vacunarlos, ya que son propensos a sufrir enfermedades y mantenerlos calentitos porque se resfrían con facilidad.
Suelen estar en jaulas, pero es recomendable que los tengas ahí el menor tiempo posible.
Viven en promedio 10 años, aunque pueden llegar a vivir varios más.
ROEDORES
Si no tenés experiencia alguna con mascotas quizás son los que más te convienen para empezar a cuidar de un animal y luego con el tiempo ver si realmente estás dispuesto a tener uno de mayor tamaño y que implique más responsabilidades.
Su tamaño es chico, son bastante activos y no requieren de muchos cuidados ni un gran presupuesto.
Pueden ser hamsters, cobayas, ratones, etc.
Se pueden entrenar para llamarlos y que te obedezcan, aunque requiere mucho tiempo y paciencia.
Existen varios juguetes para ellos. También necesitarán una jaula o casa que tendrás que limpiar con frecuencia, aparte podrías darle un espacio seguro para que correteen dentro del hogar de vez en cuando.
Su esperanza de vida no es muy larga, en general hasta 3 años.
REPTILES
Esta opción es para los que les gusta lo extraño y lo no convencional.
No son fáciles de cuidar y tenés que saber exactamente de qué manera hacerlo, ya que las serpientes y lagartos pueden ser peligrosos si no sabes como tratarlos.
Son carnívoros u omnívoros y necesitas tener gran cuidado para saciar sus necesidades.
Algunos requieren alimentos vivos como insectos o ratones, así que si sos muy impresionable, definitivamente no podrás tener uno como mascota.
Viven bastante tiempo, entre 40 y 100 años.

PECES
Si buscas tranquilidad y tener una bella vista son ideales.
Quizás son los que necesiten de menos cuidados, ya que son tranquilos y siempre estarán dentro de su pecera.

Deberás contar con un acuario, un sistema de filtración, y limpiarla cuando lo necesite.
Está recomendado para personas que sufren de estrés o ansiedad, ya que se dice que tienen un efecto tranquilizante.
Así como vos y yo tenemos la necesidad de socializar, entretenernos, aprender y sentirnos útiles y queridos, ellos también buscan eso, aparte de que cada especie tiene otras varias necesidades y deseos que los caracterizan y debemos satisfacer.
Tené en cuenta que ese ser vivo dependerá toda su vida completamente de vos, ya que al tomarlo como mascota, le quitamos la posibilidad de aprender a sobrevivir por su cuenta, en su ambiente natural.
Pero a cambio de cuidarlo y alimentarlo, nos dará su amor incondicional y formará parte importante de tu vida.
Por último, si nunca tuviste una mascota y estás en la duda, existen muchos refugios de perros y gatos abandonados donde podés ofrecerte como voluntario o simplemente ir a jugar un rato con ellos y ver cómo se comportan, cómo son cuidados y despejar algunas dudas que puedas tener. Aparte estos lugares siempre necesitan ayuda ya que están colapsados y tanto la gente que trabaje en el lugar como los animalitos te lo agradecerán muchísimo.
